Who We Are

CRDC is about Connecting Claymont to Itself through Smart Revitalization.

Smart Revitalization is about more than making physical improvements; it’s about bringing people’s needs and redevelopment together.

Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, also known as the CRDC, aims to develop and implement strategies that increase economic vitality, enhance Claymont’s reputation as an attractive and desirable place to live, and build on the community’s unique history and character. In building a more vibrant community, the CRDC strives to apply social equity and environmental justice strategies.

As a public/private funded, nonpartisan, non-profit organization, the CRDC works in partnership with New Castle County, State of Delaware, and other government entities, and in collaboration with private and not-for-profit organizations to conduct outreach and foster development and prosperity of the Claymont community. Executive Director Brett Saddler has managed the CRDC since its inception in 2006. Its Board of Directors consist of prominent Claymont community and business leaders who meet quarterly to strategically guide the organization.

Located off I-495 Philadelphia Pike exit and off of Claymont’s main artery, the CRDC leases the historic Darley House from the State of Delaware Division of Historic and Cultural Affairs to house its offices. With the goal of utilizing this historic asset for the community, the CRDC has welcomed other non-profit Claymont organizations to use the Darley House in fulfillment of their missions, including the Claymont Historical Society and The Darley Arts Center. The CRDC also hosts at its unique historic office location important civic and community informational meetings as needed.

The CRDC has and continues to be represented on various state economic development organizations, including The Committee of 100, Delawareans for Economic and Environmental Development (DEED), Delaware Decision Makers Group, Delaware Commercial–Industrial Realty Council (CIRC), and New Castle County Economic Development Council, among others.

Throughout its history, CRDC accomplishments range from helping a small business owner get started to assisting in the redevelopment of larger tracts of land, including the ongoing Darley Green project. With its first housing units completed in 2009, the project continues to be a catalyst for growth in Claymont. It consists of redeveloping 68 acres in the center of Claymont into a mixed-use residential community that is on track to bring nearly 2,000 new residents to the area.
